Mission Statement

Mammograms In Action's mission is to provide funding for qualified women who need screening and/or diagnostic procedures in the prevention of breast cancer.  By supporting MIA you help low-income and uninsured women.

What We Do

  • Mammograms In Action will work directly with local physician and health care providers who will identify candidates who are in need of the type of assistance that will be provided by the organization. The organization will focus on women who have been turned away from screenings because of their lack of ability to pay or because they have lost their health insurance due to job cuts or financial hardships and have no other means of payment
  • .Mammograms In Actions will provide funding for diagnostics, which are prescribed by a medical doctor. In the event that the results of the mammogram are abnormal and require biopsy, the organization will provide funding for the removal of a sample of tissue to determine if cancer cells are present. Diagnostic mammograms or an x-ray of the breast may also be funded that are prescribed by a medical doctor.
  • Mammograms In Action is not a treatment provider. Should a patient receive a malignant diagnosis, MIA does not assist in the
funding for treatment. Any issues pertaining to treatment should be reviewed and discussed with the patient’s physician who
    ordered their ultrasound.

Our Story

At 26 years old, a friend of ours was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her story began when she felt discomfort in her breast; her doctor advised her to not worry and to schedule her next mammogram at age 40. Six months later, still worried, she demanded a mammogram. She was diagnosed with Stage 0 DCIS breast cancer and received a mastectomy two weeks later. Due to her age, there was little thought of the possibility of breast cancer. For listening to her body and following her instincts, she is our inspiration for creating Mammograms In Action (MIA). Together, we can tell the story of her courageous journey as we stay proactive and fight breast cancer!
